Organisational Structure

How DPI is organised: the World Assembly, the World Council, the Executive, and six regional development blocks.

World Assembly

The World Assembly is DPI’s highest decision-making body. It brings together voting delegations from member national assemblies, ordinarily every four years, and is accompanied by a World Congress that provides an open forum on disability-rights issues. The Assembly sets policy, adopts declarations and elects the World Council.

World Council

The World Council is the executive organ of DPI between Assemblies. It receives activity and regional-development reports, considers financial matters, and approves the admission of new member organisations. It is composed of representatives elected from each of the regional blocks.

Executive

The Executive — the World President / Chairperson, Vice-Chairs, Secretary and Treasurer — carries the day-to-day leadership of the organisation, supported by a World Secretariat.

Regional development blocks

DPI organises through six regional blocks, each of which recruits and strengthens member organisations, runs leadership training and carries out regional advocacy:

National Assemblies

Membership is held by national assemblies — a national organisation, federation or coalition of organisations of persons with disabilities in each country. See the members directory.
